BBC high quality streams

I just discovered by accident that this set supports the BBC high quality streams (320k AAC) on all channels via internet radio. Excellent! Warning: You will never want to use DAB again. This can be done with previous models e.g. Stream 2005 by installing MinimServer on a PC on the same network, this is rather laborious but worthwhile. Don't know about the Stream 217, maybe Roberts could clarify this.

Everything I'd hoped for.

Bought this radio from Amazon.UK. It has a great sound ,is very versatile and I bought it in white (not an option from Roberts Store) After reading the other reviews I was worried about how this radio actually performed. My concerns were unfounded. I would definitely recommend this product without reservation as it is by far the most versatile and best radio I have owned. I have 4 other Roberts Radios and this is the best.

Good but a few issues stop it being great

I bought this radio for its extra functions, Spotify, playing music from a memory stick, podcasts and internet radio for example. In providing this extra functionality it has so much potential to be the best radio I have. However the battery performance is woeful (and no alarm function on battery) and the sound is just pathetic. Bought in part to be taken on the road (camper van with wi-fi) it is pretty useless and is confined to being a bedside radio with van duties given to a Sony portable played through an external speaker which provide much better sound quality. The Stream 218 in an opportunity missed and I would not recommend it unless you wanted to carry extra, and heavy, batteries and a small external speaker to boost sound quality.

Excellent piece of kit

We only got this today but it already exceeds what we wanted. We are in a poor reception area for FM and Dab is worse than useless. Internet radio is the perfect solution. Easy to set up and easy to use, including music from a usb stick (we grew up with cassettes) Sound quality is very good for a portable. Only complaint is mains adapter looks a bit bulky with the wire coming out of the top. Won't bother most people but it's stands out where we have it.

Most comprehensive feature set - works well

Had this since Christmas and it has every feature I was looking for: Spotify, Bluetooth, UPNP (worked straight away from my Synology server), Internet radio, USB, Aux, smartphone app controlled, battery and mains powered, clock, the list goes on. It sounds good, but not the most muscular. Amazing for £150.
