This is a straight forward battery operated radio, no frills, light and compact with good sound for the money. I use mine in the shed, greenhouse, garden, wherever I may be without mains electric. Very pleased with it, it is exactly what I wanted. Good value, good sound and easily used. An added bonus is it’s not hard on batteries and feels quite robust. It has no DAB, but, from experience, this I find a benefit as battery life is extended and operation simpler!
Very reliable and good value. My 85-year-old father-in-law has had Roberts radios as long as he can remember. He dropped his last one (also a Classic 993) and broke it beyond repair. I had to get the same one, a relief to find that Roberts, although moving with the times with fancier radios, also cater for customers who prefer simpler, less fidgety, things. The radio is a breeze to use, the dial is large enough to give good control over tuning, batteries last a good while, and the sound is absolutely fine. It's mono (or sounds like it), but it is powerful and clear, and totally fine. Reliable, he uses it in the garden, when potting around in the garage, when reading the papers outside. It's just so good to have a piece of technology that lasts and lasts. Highly recommend.
Excellent quality as usual used Roberts radios for years. Good service and quick delivery.
Very easy to use attractive and tucks into a small space. It is exactly what I wanted for the bedroom.TV aerial on the blink can't get it fixed because of virus.
Basic radio that follows me up the allotment, in the garden and when decorating. It replaced same model despite years of use. Had a a few falls and knocks - last one fatal! So this is great value, gets all the stations I need, sounds good for a single speaker and the battery life is fine.
Really disappointing. Sound quality tinny and cheap, and it is almost impossible to tune the FM band to more than a couple of strong stations (R2 and R4 just about OK, LOCAL radio stations useless). Previous portables (three Sony sets) were better in every way - sound quality, FM reception, ease of tuning. Years ago Roberts were considered the cream of the crop of portable radios; my father was a radio and TV retailer in the 60s, and I still remember his delight when he was at last granted the Roberts dealership - it brought with it great kudos. Well, not any more! Would have returned the radio as not fit for purpose, but due to the current lockdown am unable to do so as I cannot get to a post office. Shame - I'm really not happy.
Great little radio .. . long battery life... Old school looking...easy to use.. Sound not the best but ok for the money etc..
I can't praise the radio enough. I lost my other in the floods and had to have another to listen to at the allotments. I wouldn't have chosen any other. Great value.
I'm an old devil and this is perfect, simple to the point and sounds great. Had it for 3 weeks now and its true that the batteries last forever! Can't say anymore but absolutely great value and great sound with a never ending battery. Done!
Perfect radio really lovely small compact an good sound
Although I have an electric clock radio I decided to buy this during the lockdown in case we had a power cut so I could keep in touch with what is going on in the world. It’s an old-fashioned radio with a turn dial, easy to use, just pop the batteries in and away you go, simples!
For me it became more of a nuisance as to get clear signal you had too hold Ariel even outside in the open
Shame it doesn't come with the lead to plug into the mains as it says on the box battery or mains
